Helping Russia modernise its weather station network
One of the world’s largest projects to modernise a surface weather observation network is currently under way in Russia – with the help of Vaisala.
Under an agreement signed last year, Vaisala is supplying its latest surface weather observation technology to Roshydromet, the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
The project – the biggest-ever in the field in Russia and covering over 1,800 stations dotted across the world’s largest country – is designed to broaden the range of real-time weather data available, increase system automation, and improve the quality of weather data.
Vaisala has assisted local Russian system integrator, Lanit, to establish a facility in Novosibirsk in Siberia to handle the assembly, calibration, and delivery of the new weather stations.
