Two major players have decided to cooperate on developing a 3 MW wind turbine meeting international quality requirements for customers in China, which is the world’s fastest-growing market for wind power today.

The two companies in question are Moventas, one of the world’s largest wind gear manufacturers, and Dong Fang New Energy Equipment (DNEE), a recently established unit of Dong Fang Electric Corporation, one of China’s largest manufacturers of generating equipment.

Moventas will be responsible for providing a reliable gear solution for the new unit, and is due to deliver the first prototype gears in December 2010.

The agreement marks an important step forward for Moventas on the Chinese market.

“We have solid plans to expand our operations in Asia, especially in China. This collaboration is an excellent milestone on our path and also a strong indication of the trust that the market has in Moventas' expertise,” according to the company’s CEO, Jukka Jäämaa.

In addition to wind turbine gears, Moventas also manufactures power transmission solutions for industry and provides overhaul and maintenance services. The company has over 1,300 employees in eight countries and a worldwide network of partners.
